Indiana’s Smoking Rate Continues to Worsen, Despite Improvements Nationally

According to recently released data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Indiana’s already high smoking rate has gotten worse, in contrast to declines in most other states. That is bad news for Hoosiers and our state’s economy. Smoking remains the number one cause of preventable death in the United States and takes a heavy toll on Indiana especially. Paul Halverson, Dean of Fairbanks School of Public Health, Departing in 2024 

Paul Halverson, who holds a doctorate in public health and is the founding dean of the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, will begin a new position in Oregon on Feb. 1, 2024.
