The Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation is pleased to announce it is awarding one-time grants to six Indianapolis nonprofit organizations addressing homelessness intervention and prevention as a part of its annual Charitable Grants program. This year’s recipients are Family Promise, HealthNet Homeless Initiative Program, Horizon House, Indiana Youth Group, Outreach, Inc. and The PourHouse.

Since 2021, the Fairbanks Foundation has awarded what we refer to as Charitable Grants, which are one-time, $25,000 grants to Indianapolis organizations based on a funding theme that reflects the pressing needs in Indianapolis. The Charitable Grants program continues the legacy of Dick Fairbanks’ interest in making small, unrestricted grants to organizations where these dollars could make a significant impact.

This year’s funding theme, homelessness intervention and prevention, is of particular relevance at this time. Indianapolis city and community leaders have identified housing instability and a lack of support services to help families achieve stable housing as a critical issue – one that comes with significant impacts on the health, education and economic outcomes of Indianapolis.

The annual count of people experiencing homelessness in Marion County has held relatively steady over the past decade, with more than 1,600 people identified as experiencing homelessness in the January 2023 point-in-time count. Additionally, in 2022 more than 3,700 Marion County students were identified as experiencing housing instability.
